Nearly Done...
So today I uploaded a set of notes on waves under the heading 'wave maths'. The AQA unit 2 page is starting to look very crowded, and I still have one more document to write up!
That document will be called 'Interference' and will concern four topics:
Standing waves - the formation of them, what is meant by 'harmonic' and so on. This will include phase differences on standing waves (which are always 0 or pi, depending on whether the point is going in the same or opposite direction).
Single slit diffraction - How the pattern emerges, Huygen's principle (each point on a wavefront acts as a point source of secondary waves), experimental setup. Formula for central maximum width.
Double slit diffraction - Derivation of equation for fringe spacing, experimental setup.
Diffraction gratings- Derivation of equation, applications (spectral analysis e.g. for working out the composition of stars, or for working out galactic redshift).
I haven't started this yet. It will definitely be done by the end of next week, but I hope to get it done before the end of the weekend. That will be the last set of notes for As Physics!
